Bereit zum Start / Ready for lift off
...and 1 Day to go
Morgen ist es endlich soweit. Wir werden uns auf den Weg nach Chicago begeben. Da der Flieger erst am Donnerstag startet werden wir den morgigen Tag dazu nutzen, um uns in München eingehend umzusehen.
Hofbräuhaus, Hard-Rock-Cafe und einige andere Lokalitäten werden von uns besichtigt werden.
Abends geht's dann ab zum Flughafen - Vorabend-Check-In und ein wenig Schlaf finden... Morgens gegen 07.00 Uhr ab zur Sicherheitskontrolle. 09.05 Uhr ist der bestätigte (lt. Flughafen München) Abflugtermin.
Lasst den Urlaub beginnen!!! Obergeil!!!

Ultimately tomorrow we are on the way. We'll be on the road to Chicago. Because the plane is starting on Thursday we will have a look in Munich tomorrow.
Hofbrauhaus, Hard-Rock-Cafe and some other venues will be visit of us.
In the Evening we'll go to the airport. Eve-Check-In and some hours sleep. At the next days morning about 07.00 pm to the security control and lift of is at 09.05 pm. We'll arrive at O'Hare at 11.40 pm.

Grillzeit / Barbecue-Time
... and 10 Days to go
Ein richtiges amerikanisches Grillfest darf während unseres Besuches natürlich auch nicht fehlen. So wie es momentan aussieht, wird es nicht nur bei einem Grillabend bzw. einem kompletten Grilltag bleiben.
Zu einem sind wir bei Mary und Vernon eingeladen. Ebenfalls haben wir auch schon von Mary’s Schwester Margaret ein Angebot erhalten. Mal schauen was da aufgetischt wird. Wenig wird es sicherlich nicht sein *hehe*. Da werden wir sicher einige vergnügte Stunden erleben.
Zudem hat unser Freund Chris (Ihn haben wir über Kenneth – einen Kollegen aus Perth, Australien – kennen gelernt. Auf den Great Intercontinental Pub Crawl sind wir auf der Suche nach einigen guten Bars und Pubs in Chicago aufmerksam geworden. So schließt sich der Kreis. Es ist einfach fantastisch, Leute rund um den Erdball zu kennen und natürlich auch hilfreich, wie man sieht.
Eventuell können wir den Amys auch noch einige gute Tipps rund um das Grillen geben. Hoffentlich benutzen Sie Holzkohlegrills, damit das Grillgut auch seinen richtigen und würzigen Geschmack bekommt.

Maybe we can give them some tips for grilling. We hope that they will use charcoal grills for the true and spicy taste of the grillables.

Chicago Bears - Oh Yeah...

Jetzt haben wir es doch getan. Wir werden den Chicago-Bears beiwohnen. Nicht während der regulären Saison gegen die Kansas City Chiefs sondern im letzten Vorbereitungsspiel gegen die Cleveland Browns.
Für insgesamt $75,00 je Person sind wir dabei. OH YEAH!!!
Am 30. August um 19.00 Uhr findet das Match statt. Von daher wird der erste Tag richtig schnelllebig. Ankuft kurz vor 12 Uhr in Chicago - auschecken, Sicherheitskontrollen, Fahrt in die Stadt/Ferienwohnung - und gleich weiter zum Spiel.
Das wird ein unglaublicher Einstand in Chicago. Und bestimmt auch ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. 61.500 fanatische Fans und wir sind mittendrin und selbstverständlich auch dabei.

und am 08. September ist es soweit... Achterbahn-Tag ist angesagt. Im Land der Achterbahnen ist dies auf jeden Fall ein Pflichtpunkt der erfüllt werden muss.
Hey - bei der Online-Buchung spart man ca. $15,00 je Ticket. Da wird gleich zugeschlagen und die Zugfahrtpreise zum Park halten sich auch im Rahmen (besser als in Deutschland).
Schaut mal auf die Webseite. Gut ist, dass der Thrill-Faktor zu jeder Bahn mit angegeben ist - Schlecht ist, dass es keine richtigen Bilder oder sogar Filme der Fahrten gibt. Das währe noch verbesserungswürdig.
Davon lassen wir uns jetzt aber mal nicht abhalten. Wir werden uns reinstürzen und so viele Fahrten wie möglich mitnehmen.

Take a look on the website. You can see the Thrill-Factor of each ride but there aren't any good pics or videos of the ride. This could be better.
But we will go there and make as much rides as possible.

Vernon, unser Onkel, besorgt uns jetzt Karten für das College-Football Spiel der Northwestern Wildcats gegen die Northeastern Huskies im Ryan-Field in Evanston, Il. (Vielen Dank)
Das Spiel findet am 1. September statt. Ein optimaler Einstand für unseren Trip.
Die Kartenpreise für das NFL-Spiel der Chicago Bears gegen die Kansas City Chiefs beginnen bei 165,00 US-Dollar (ca. 120,00 Euro nach momentanen Umrechnungskurs). Das muss nicht unbedingt sein.
Vor allem die Party nach dem Spiel werden wir mit Freuden in Angriff nehmen. Da das Spiel schon um 11.00 Uhr vormittags beginnt, besteht danach genügend Zeit, um richtig abzufeiern.
Angenehm ist auch, dass wir hier selbstverständlich die beste Kategorie nehmen werden. Hier wären die Karten für das Bears-Spiel weit über 400 US-Dollar.

The ticket prices for the NFL game of the Chicago Bears vs. the Kansas City Chiefs begins at $165.00 (approx 120.00 Euro). That isn't a must go.
After the game we will attack the game parties. The game will start at 11pm so we will have enough time to make a big party.
Of course we will have the best section. For this tickets you have to pay much more than $400 for the Bears-Game.

Natürlich darf das ehemalige höchste Gebäude der Welt nicht auf unserer Tour fehlen.
Mit 110 Stockwerken und 443m ist es immerhin noch das dritthöchste Gebäude der Welt und das höchste in Nordamerika.
Das Skydeck befindet sich in 412m Höhe. Da hat man einen atemberaubenden Weitblick. An einem klaren Tag kann man bis zu 80 Kilometer weit sehen. Oh Yeah.
Und das geniale ist, das der Turm natürlich auch schwankt. Am höchsten Punkt sind es ca. 15 cm nach links und rechts. Das wird bestimmt lustig.

Celtic Fest Chicago
and 99 Days to go... oh Yeah!
An unserem letzten Wochenende in Chicago werden die Chicago-Troopers dem jährlichen Celtic Fest Chicago beiwohnen.
Dieses zweitägige Event findet im Grant Park statt und und feiert die Musik, den Tanz und die Tradition der keltischen Regionen.
Letztes Jahr verweilten wir im August 2 Wochen in Irland und zudem noch einmal ein Wochenende in Dublin im Dezember. Von daher hat uns einfach auch die Lebensfreude und Mentalität der Kelten gepackt. Nun bietet es sich natürlich an, das Celtic Fest in der größten irischen Stadt ausserhalb Irlands zu besuchen - Chicago!
Guinness wird in strömen fließen und die Tanzbeine werden geschwungen.
Was für ein Gefühl.
Einen besseren Ausklang können sich die Chicago-Troopers fast nicht mehr wünschen. Dieses Wochenende wird nochmals alle Dimensionen sprengen und uns hoffentlich einige Dollars kosten.
Schaut immer wieder rein für weitere Ziele und Events, die die Chicago-Troopers ansteuern werden...

Lufhansa and more...
... so, die letzte Woche war wirklich ereignisreich.
Wir sind von der Lufthansa informiert worden , dass die Strecke Strassbourg - Muenchen nicht mehr geflogen wird (Grund wurde nicht genannt... evtl. zu wenig Buchungen). Es bestehe die Moeglichkeit ueber Frankfurt mit Busanreise ab Strassbourg oder mit Bahnanreise nach Muenchen zu Reisen, schrieben sie uns.
Na Klasse, haben wir uns dabei gedacht. Doch einen echten Chicago-Trooper bringt dies auch nicht aus der Fassung. Nach einigem Hin und Her und zahlreichen Telefonaten mit der Lufthansa zwecks Kostenuebernahme entschieden wir uns für die Rail&Fly Tickets. Bahnanreise ab Haslach (somit ersparen wir uns schon den Weg nach Strassbourg - 4 grosse Trollies brauchen auch ihren Platz im Auto).
Wir muessen jetzt halt schon am Mittwoch Abend unsere Reise beginnen. Auch gut, so koennen wir uns noch den Muenchener Flughafen anschauen. Er soll einer der modernsten in Europa sein. http://www.flughafen-muenchen.de/DE/index.html
Leider ist die Verbindung per Transrapid von Muenchen HBF zum Flughafen noch in Planung. Ist nicht so schlimm, unser Ziel ist schließlich Chicago und nicht eine Fahrt mit dem Transrapid.

We've been informed by the Lufthansa, that they cancelled the flight route Strassbourg - Munich (without any basement - maybe to less bookings). We've two alternatives. By bus from Strassbourg to Frankfurt or by train to Munich.
Very well then we've thought. But nothing will get choke up about a real Chicago-Trooper. After numerous of calls with the Lufthansa for the purpose of cost absorption we decided that the Rail&Fly option would be the best. Railway transfer from Haslach (so we won't have to drive to Strassbourg Airport - 4 large trollies need also space in the car).
Now we have to start the trip on Wednesday evening. Never mind! So we have the time for a look on one of europes state-of-the-art airport. http://www.flughafen-muenchen.de/EN/index.html
Worse luck! The connection from Munich CS to the airport by the Transrapid is still in planning. But it doesn't greatly matter. Cos our target is Chicago and not a ride with the Transrapid.

Chicago Jazz Festival
T-119 days to Chicago...
Vom 30. August bis zum 2. September findet im Grant Park das 29ste Chicago Jazz Festival statt.
1974 fand das erste Festival in Gedenken an den verstorbenen Komponisten und Bandleader Duke Ellington statt. Das Programm wurde stetig erweitert und jetzt kommen jährlich ca. 125.000 Menschen, um dieses Event zu genießen.
Bekannte Namen wie: Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Wynton Marsalis und Nancy Wilson traten bisher auf.
Momentan stehen die Interpreten für dieses Jahr noch nicht fest. Einfach immer mal die Webseite besuchen.
Selbstverständlich werden die Chicago-Troopers diesem Ereignis beiwohnen und mithelfen, es zu einem unvergesslichen Spektakel werden zu lassen.
...kommt einfach auch... Es wird sicher ein grossartiges Erlebnis werden.

In Chicago wurde auch das erste Riesenrad der Welt errichtet (1893). Das momentane Riesenrad ist ein Nachbau des Originals.
Zudem gibt es hier viele Attraktionen und Biergärten zu besichtigen und einzunehmen.
Zahlreiche Fahrgeschäfte und auch Museen sind ebenso vertreten, wie auch ein IMAX-Kino. Dies wird ein muss sein! Mal sehen, welche Filme Sie dann im Programm haben.
Am 1. + 2. September findet abends ein grosses Feuerwerk statt (am 3. September ist Labor Day - Tag der Arbeit).

NFL... - Chicago Bears
Gestern haben wir den neuen Spielplan der NFL-Saison 2007 gesehen. Die Chicago Bears (www.chicagobears.com) werden ihr erstes Heimspiel am Sonntag, den 16.09. gegen die Kansas City Chiefs bestreiten. Da wir ja erst am Montag wieder zurückfliegen, müssen wir natürlich diese Gelegenheit wahrnehmen.
Leider werden die Karten erst Ende Juli in den Handel kommen und dann sicherlich 25-fach überbucht sein. Aber wir versuchen natürlich unser möglichstes, um diesem Ereigniss beizuwohnen.

Yesterday we have seen the new schedule for the NFL Season 2007. The Chicago Bears (www.chicagobears.com) will play their first game at home on Sunday 16th of September vs. the Kansas City Chiefs at Soldier Field. And we'll flight back on Monday. So it is a must go for us to join this match.
At the end of July we can book the tickets. I hope it will work. Cos I guess there will be so much fans which wanna take part at that great match.
To enjoy the atmosphere at Soldier Fiel (www.soldierfield.net) is a must go.

Chicago Cubs - Baseball
Noch 135 Tage bis zum Start unserer Mission...
Soeben erhielten wir die Bestätigung für die Reservierung der Baseball-Tickets am 5. September. Chicago Cubs vs. LA Dodgers im Wrigley Field. (www.chicagocubs.com)
Das wir ein Spass werden. Direkt neben dem Stadion befindet sich auch ein super Pub (www.pubclub.com). Hier werden wir uns im Vorfeld auf das Spiel einstimmen und mit einigen Fans danach feiern.
Da das Spiel erst abend um 19.00 Uhr beginnt, werden wir die Gelegenheit nutzen uns im Viertel rund um das Wrigley Field umzusehen. Hier gibt es auch einige deutschen Brau-Pubs inklusive deutschem Bier.
Leider exportiert Rothaus (www.rothaus.de) sein Tannenzäpfle nicht in die USA... Also, wer da Kontakte hat, bitte melden... 2 1/5 Wochen ohne Rothaus, das wird hart.

We just recieved the affirmation of the reservetion of our tickets for the baseball-match: Chicago Cubs vs. LA Dodgers at Wrigley Field on the 5th of September. (www.chicagocubs.com/)
What a fun. Across of the stadium there is a great pub (www.pubclub.com). We'll have some drinks before and after the match there.
The game starts at 7.00 pm. So we have enough time to visit the quarter around Wrigley Field. There are a few german Brew-Pubs with german beer.
Sadly, Rothaus (www.rothaus.de) doesn't export their beer, especially the Tannenzaepfle into the USA. If you have any contacts - let us know... 2 1/5 weeks without a Tannenzaepfle... Damn hard

Ready for Take off
So... noch 140 Tage bis zum Startschuss...
Wir werden am 30.08.2007 um 07.00 Uhr in Strassburg starten. Über München gehts dann ab nach Chicago... Der Rückflug ist am 17.09. mit Ankunft in Strassburg am 18.09.
